Quick answer

A sewer camera inspection sends a waterproof camera on a flexible cable through your sewer line so you can see roots, cracks, sags and breaks on a screen. A locator then finds the camera from above ground, so we can mark the exact spot and depth of the problem before anyone picks up a shovel.

Guessing is expensive when the pipe is three to six feet under your yard. One plumber says roots, another says a collapsed line, and both want to start digging. A camera inspection ends the guessing. You watch the footage with us, you see what is wrong, and you get a price for the fix that the video supports.

What the Camera Finds in Pine Bluff Sewer Lines

Pine Bluff has a lot of older housing. Most homes were built between the 1940s and the 1990s, and the houses around Fifth Avenue and downtown go back even further. That means a mix of clay, cast iron and Orangeburg fiber pipe under our yards, and each one fails in its own way. On camera we regularly see:

  • Tree roots pushing through clay pipe joints, often from the big oaks in older neighborhoods.
  • Bellies, low spots where the pipe has sagged and water and waste sit instead of draining.
  • Offset joints, where two pipe sections have shifted out of line and catch paper and grease.
  • Cracks and breaks in clay and cast iron, sometimes with soil falling into the pipe.
  • Orangeburg pipe that has blistered and flattened into an oval.
  • Grease and scale narrowing the pipe from the inside.

How the Inspection Works

  1. Access the line

We go in through an outdoor cleanout when there is one. If not, we can use a roof vent or pull a toilet.

  2. Run the camera

The camera head travels down the line toward the city main while you watch the live picture with us.

  3. Locate from above

A transmitter in the camera head lets our locator pinpoint the problem spot and its depth from the surface. We mark it on the ground.

  4. Price and plan

You get our honest read of the footage, the options, and a price before any work starts. You keep the recording.

When You Should Get One

You do not need a camera inspection for a single slow sink. You do need one when the problem points to the main line:

  • More than one drain backs up at the same time, or the toilet gurgles when the washer drains.
  • The main line clogs again weeks or months after being snaked.
  • You smell sewage in the yard or see a soggy patch that never dries.
  • Someone quoted you a full line replacement and you want to see the proof first.
  • You are buying a house. See our pre-purchase sewer inspection.
Free check from the cityIf sewage is backing up right now, Pine Bluff Wastewater Utility (870-535-6603) checks stoppages for free and can tell you if the clog is in the city main. If they say it is on your side, a camera inspection is the next step.

What Happens After the Camera

The footage decides the fix, not a sales pitch. Here is how it usually goes:

What the camera showsUsual fix
Grease, sludge or light roots, pipe in good shapeHydro jetting
Heavy root mass at one or two jointsTree root removal and a sealed repair at the joint
One cracked, offset or broken sectionSpot sewer repair
Pipe failing along its whole lengthSewer line replacement or trenchless lining

If the footage shows the line is fine and the problem is in the city main, we tell you. You will not pay us to fix a pipe that is not yours. Our full approach to sewer line repair in Pine Bluff starts with this step every time.

What a Camera Inspection Costs

The price depends mostly on how the line can be reached and how long it is. A home with an easy outdoor cleanout costs less to inspect than one where we need to pull a toilet. You get the number on the phone or before we start, and if you move forward with a repair we tell you up front how the inspection is handled.

Sewer Camera Inspection FAQ

How long does a sewer camera inspection take?

Most home inspections take 30 minutes to an hour. A line with no cleanout, or one that needs clearing before the camera can pass, takes longer.

Can the camera see through standing water?

Not well. If the line is backed up, we usually clear a path first, then run the camera so we can see the pipe wall clearly.

Do I get a copy of the video?

Yes. You keep the recording. It helps with insurance claims, home sales and comparing quotes.

Can you tell how deep my sewer line is?

Yes. The locator reads the signal from the camera head and shows both the position and the depth, which is how we plan a small, targeted dig. Read more in our guide on how deep sewer lines are buried.

Is a camera inspection worth it if my drains work fine?

For an older home with trees nearby, or before buying a house, it often is. See Is a Sewer Camera Inspection Worth It?
